As part of efforts to ensure the safety and conservation of the wandering elephant reportedly found around farms in Saki, Oyo State, a team from Wildlife Society of Nigeria (WISON) comprising
Prof O.A. Jayeola (Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State),
Prof A.A. Ogunjinmi (Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State), and
Dr J.O. Orimaye (National Open University of Nigeria, Abuja)
was dispatched by the National Executive Council (NEC) of WISON to conduct on the spot assessment of the situation and conditions of the elephant.
The ultimate target is to provide immediate protection for the elephant through community advocacy. However, the assessment indicated that the elephant is actually located in Gobo, a town of about 91km from Saki, and 4km from Gwanara town.
Gobo and Gwanara are in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
